In August 2012 we were delighted to hear that our Fairtrade Island Status, first granted in 2005, had been renewed. We held a celebration event on Tuesday November 27th at St Pauls Centre. It was attended by Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst, who was important in our renewal bid. Also present was former Senator Jean Le Maistre, who initiated our original application.

A celebration cake was shared along with Fairtrade wines supplied by the Co-op. Oxfam fairtrade goods were on sale. Baskets of Fairtrade goods, donated by Waitrose and M&S, were raffled, raising over £100. A powerpoint showed how the Liberation Nut company had, over the past 4 years, imported peanuts and cashew nuts from Malawi on Fairtrade terms bringing great benefits to their community. The letter received from Adam Gardner of the Fairtrade Foundation announcing our renewal is attached. In 2015 we will be celebrating the 10th. anniversary of becoming a Fairtrade Island and also renewing that status by submitting evidence of the growth and development of Fairtrade in the island.
